Cawongan - Indonesia Banyumas traditional rituals


Cowongan is a form of cultural rituals in ancient times carried out with the intention to invite the rain made Banyumas society, especially farmers who suffered drought. Cowongan ritual is usually held at the end of Kapat (count period in Javanese calendar). In the execution Cowongan done at odd count eg 1 times, 2 times, 5 times and 7 times. Where once implemented Cowongan the first time it will not rain held in 3 times and so on until tetrjadi rain. Currently Cowongan than as a ritual for the community Banyumasan also often held as the performing arts and as a representation of human life which is so difficult to distinguish between the Man and the devil / demon.
